iLEAPS is an international cross-disciplinary research program aimed at improved understanding of processes, linkages, and feedbacks in the land-atmosphere interface affecting the Earth System. The scientific goal of iLEAPS is to provide understanding how interacting physical, chemical and biological processes transport and transform energy and matter through the land-atmosphere interface. The program essentially integrates measurements and modeling at scales from molecular to global, from past through present to future. iLEAPS was established in 2004 as the land-atmosphere core project within the framework of the second phase of IGBP, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme. iLEAPS works in very close collaboration with several international research programs and projects. iLEAPS facilitates scientific collaboration as well as synthesis and distribution of results to scientific, politic and public audiences. iLEAPS encourages international and cross-disciplinary collaboration, particularly involving scientists from the developing countries. Activities iLEAPS initiates, recognizes, co-sponsors, supports and organizes a variety of activities and events. Activities under iLEAPS include integrated projects and supporting activities. The activities proposed and organized by scientists are initially approved by the Scientific Steering Committee and reviewed on a regular basis. We welcome applications for projects and supporting activities. The section New proposals gives guidelines for applications. The current projects and activities welcome participants from all over the world; please contact the IPO or the respective activity coordinator for more information. iLEAPS arranges various meetings such as science conferences, open and closed workshops and summer schools. iLEAPS also organizes and co-sponsors sessions at large meetings, for example at the European Geophysical Union General Assembly and American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting. Contact the IPO for more information or to suggest an event. |
