iLEAPS co-chair Professor Markku Kulmala has been awarded the Fuchs Memorial Award, recognizing outstanding worldwide contributions to the field of aerosol research. It is the premier international prize in aerosol science, presented every four years at the International Aerosol Conference by the American Association for Aerosol Research, Gesellschaft für Aerosolforschung, and the Japan Association of Aerosol Science and Technology. |

The National Science Foundation (NSF) East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) is a program providing educational opportunities for U.S. Graduate Students. The Summer Institutes are hosted by foreign counterparts committed to increasing opportunities for young U.S. researchers to work in research facilities and with host mentors abroad. Fellows are supported to participate in eight-week research experiences at host laboratories in Australia, China, Japan (10 weeks), Korea, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan from June to August. The program provides a $5,000 summer stipend, round-trip airfare to the host location, living expenses abroad, and an introduction to the society, culture, language, and research environment of the host location. Application deadline is 5:00 pm local time on November 10, 2010. Application instructions are available online at www.nsfsi.org. NOAA funding opportunity release: Climate Data Records (CDRs) from Satellites |

NOAA's Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS) has released an Announcement of Opportunity for the development, calibration and validation of Climate Data Records (CDRs) from satellite data. The selected activities will be part of NOAA's Climate Data Record Program (CDRP), managed at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville. As part of an operational service agency, the CDRP is particularly focused on the adaptation and transition into operations of mature algorithms and processes that were developed and successfully demonstrated as part of research-oriented programs and agencies (e.g., NASA's Earth Observing System). Deadlines: Letters of Intent (not required): 15 September 2010, Proposals: 10 November 2010. IGBP statement on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change |

Since the 2007 publication of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, new evidence has emerged that further supports all overarching conclusions of the Fourth Assessment Report. ESA-iLEAPS-EGU Earth Observation for Land-Atmosphere Interaction Science Conference is 3-5 November 2010 at the premises of ESA-ESRIN in Frascati (Rome), Italy. The event aims at bringing together the Earth-observation (EO) and Earth-system communities, as well as scientific institutions and space agencies involved in the observation, characterisation and forecasting of land-atmosphere interactions and their impacts.
Abstracts (max 5000 characters) must be written in plain text and submitted using the online submission form within 31 May 2010. Notification of Acceptance and Preliminary Programme: 19 July 2010.
